About
The artist
I am a relative newcomer to art having taken it up only when I retired from a long career in academia. It is now so much a part of who I am, it is hard to believe that it has taken me this long to explore this side of myself. I am a largely self-taught artist. I have tried a wide range of mediums but I am particularly drawn to oil paints. I love their vibrancy, their fluidity and the opportunity to rework and blend whilst wet. I have most recently been experimenting with oil paints blended with cold wax, a technique used by J. M. W. Turner to create his wonderful atmospheric land and seascapes.
My art is influenced by Impressionism and rather than depicting specific places the paintings reflect my experiences, images and memories of all the places that I have been fortunate to go to, both locally here in beautiful Worcestershire, where I now live, but also internationally from a lifetime of travels.
I am naturally drawn to the power, beauty and majesty of the natural world particularly the coast and wild, open countryside; which is complemented by my fascination with endlessly changing skies. I am at the start of my art journey and feel privileged to be able to share this love with others.
